Chelsea right-back Reece James said he was fulfilling a boyhood dream when he was handed his first cap in England’s 3-0 win against Wales last night.
The 20-year-old replaced Kieran Tripper just before the hour mark in the friendly and the defender took to Twitter after the game to express how happy he was to represent the Three Lions:
Wow!!!🤩 I’ve been dreaming of this day since a little boy! What a feeling. I’d like to thank the manager for giving me this opportunity, and everyone else that’s believed in me and supported me to get to this point in my career. Follow your dreams with your heart! pic.twitter.com/9MOnVu68hL

James has begun to establish himself as Chelsea’s first-choice right-back ahead of Cesar Azpilicueta this season but, at international level, he will certainly have a fight on his hands to get game time.
As well as Trippier, Liverpool’s Trent Alexander Arnold, Manchester City’s Kyle Walker and Manchester United’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka have all made cases for inclusion in Gareth Southgate’s squad.
James will be looking to put in some impressive performances for Chelsea over the coming months, not only to consolidate his place in the starting eleven but also to put himself in contention for Euro 2021.
