Chelsea’s defence really struggled in the second half as Valencia threatened to overrun them. As manager Frank Lampard said after the game, they could have easily lost or even won the game last night.
One of the main culprits for the Blues’ openness at the back was Andreas Christensen who didn’t look up to the pace of the game. The Dane replaced Fikayo Tomori in the starting line up, with the centre-back partnering Kurt Zouma.
Supporters on Twitter were not impressed by Christensen or his partnership with Zouma:
Until Rüdiger is fit. Zouma and Tomori should stay as the centre backs pairing. Christensen needs to be back on the bench for the West Ham game. #CFC #VCFChelsea

Can people stop rating Christensen so highly, he’s not shown it in 2 years & is actively dangerous & constantly makes silly mistakes
I’d happily see him go at this point#VCFCHE #CFC #ChelseaFC

One topic, two questions:
1. What did Tomori do wrong to lose his place in the team?
2. What did Christensen do right to merit his place in the team?#CFC #KTBFFH #VALCHE— Pär Nølio 🌍 (@pernollie) November 27, 2019
A Game we could have won but probably should have lost
We cant be that open at the Back
Zouma & Christensen is the worst Partnership I have ever seen
Kepa Saves a Pen & then drops that howler
Everyones missing sitters
That was Sunday League Madness#VCFCHE #CFC #ChelseaFC https://t.co/g9tNj3Qk0Q

Christensen and Zouma should never be the defensive pair again. They cannot play together #CFC #Chelsea

Zouma + Christensen Partnership
In Defense Is Trash! Lampard Should
NEVER Play Both Players Again.
Zouma Had A Good Game But The Latter Was Below Par. #CFC— NWOKE SIRI IKE (@GENTULIUSJULIUS) November 27, 2019
Think we can all agree Christensen can never play another big game for us. Genuinely don't understand why people on here rate him. Been terrible ever since his mistake against Barca but because he's "youth" he won't get criticised. If Alonso or Willian made those mistakes… #CFC

There are some mitigating circumstances here. Christensen has not played a single minute for Chelsea since September so he was bound to be a bit rusty.
The 23-year-old was injured on international duty back in October and has had to wait for his chance since his return to fitness. After last night’s showing, though, I think it is safe to say that Tomori will be back in the eleven when the Blues face West Ham on Saturday.
