Chelsea head into tomorrow’s game against Manchester City in confident mood. Not many would have predicted Frank Lampard’s side to be above the Citizens at this stage of the season.
The Blues boss does have some selection headaches ahead of the match, though, with the likes of Jorginho returning from suspension and Christian Pulisic unlikely to feature due to a hip injury.
Another big question will be whether Reece James will keep his place at right-back ahead of captain Cesar Azpiluceta. Although Lampard does rate the youngster highly, I think he may opt for experience, especially away from Stamford Bridge.
Jorginho’s return will mean a change in midfield. I can see Lampard using a similar midfield to the one that was so effective in the UEFA Super Cup final against Liverpool, meaning Mason Mount could drop out.
That would be harsh on the 20-year-old, and the Chelsea manager may opt to play him out wide instead, but Hudson-Odoi’s pace on the counter-attack could prove vital at the Etihad, especially if City have most of the ball.
With Willian being picked regularly, you would expect the Brazilian to play from the right-hand side, with Tammy Abraham leading the line.
Chelsea’s Predicted XI To Face Manchester City:
Kepa, Azpilicueta, Zouma, Tomori, Emerson, Kante, Jorginho, Kovacic, Willian, Abraham, Hudson-Odoi
