“Just one of those days” says Chelsea star after disappointing United defeat

Chelsea’s Danny Drinkwater says he believes fortune was not in his side’s favour at the weekend following the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United.

Chelsea took the lead on 32 minutes when in-form Willian drove home from inside the United area, however that lead was short lived however as former Blue Romelu Lukaku equalised for the home side seven minutes later.

Jesse Lingard scored what proved to be the winner on 75 minutes, moments before Alvaro Morata had the equaliser incorrectly ruled out for offside.

And Drinkwater, who came close with an effort of his own in the first-half, says it was just “one of those days”.

“We definitely should have got something from the game,’ the 27-year-old said.

“In the first half we were very dominant. In the second half it was a bit different, it was more even, but we didn’t deserve to lose that game, no chance.

Lukaku, formerly of Chelsea, scored United’s equaliser on the day just before half-time.

“I don’t know the stats but the first half felt good. Their goal came out of nowhere. We had a bit of confidence coming into the second half, but it didn’t go our way. It was more of a battle which suited them and took the game away from us. All the boys in the dressing room are bitterly disappointed.”

The defeat sees Chelsea slip outside of the top four the first time this season, but Drinkwater insists the Blues remain fully focused on securing a place in next season’s Champions League.

“Football goes against you sometimes and it was one of those days. There are obviously bits we could have improved on, but we have to got to look forward and on to the next game now.

“It’s down to us. We have got to get our performances and our results in order and hopefully our position will look after itself.”
