Full Report
It was Manchester City who took control of the game from the start and nearly went ahead in the eighth minute though Heurelho Gomes was up to the save from Kevin De Bruyne. It was virtually one way traffic at the Etihad Stadium and Gomes again had to be aleart to deny Nolito at the near post in the 22nd minute.
With the home side dominating possession it wouldn't be long before they hit the front. After good work from De Bruyne on the left hand side, he crossed it for Pablo Zabaleta to volley home in the 33rd minute.
After the break, it was more of the same from the Citizens and Raheem Sterling nearly made it 2-0 in the 57th minute. After a twisting run he hit a shot which clipped the bar and went over with Gomes beaten.
The Hornets were creating very little going forward though Etienne Capoue had a big chance in the 76th minute.
After a free kick flicked off Miguel Britos' head, it fell to the France international who forced a smart save from Claudio Bravo. The away team had another chance moments later but Odion Ighalo failed to hit the target after a good cross from Nordin Amrabat.
It would soon be game over when the excellent Sterling played in David Silva who finished calmly past Gomes in the 86th minute. There were no more further alarms as City earned their first win in two Premier League matches after defeats to Chelsea and Leicester City.
