Karanka: Liverpool are title contenders

Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka believes that Liverpool displayed all the quality of title contenders during Wednesday's 3-0 victory over Boro at the Riverside Stadium.

Adam Lallana scored twice and Divock Origi was also on target as the Reds moved back into second place in the English Premier League - six points behind leaders Chelsea.

The Spaniard was full of praise for the visitors after the game and admitted that the Reds were virtually impossible to deal with in the second half.

He told reporters, "I can't say anything bad about my players. They have given everything for 90 minutes, running and fighting, but Liverpool made it so difficult for us. Like Chelsea, I think they are the really strong candidates to win the league.

"We have played all the top teams - and they are as good as any of them. We were more aggressive in the first half, but in the second half it was impossible. Liverpool were much better than us. Their intensity, their quality on the ball, everything."

The Jurgen Klopp-coached outfit take on Everton next, in a Merseyside derby on Monday. Meanwhile, Middlesbrough have a league clash with Swansea City on Saturday.
