Cesc Fabregas: "We want to keep winning"

Former Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas, celebrated a welcome return to the Chelsea starting line-up with a goal of the highest quality, one which earned the Blues a 1-0 win against bottom of the table Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

The 29 year old Spaniard, who has spent plenty of this season warming the benches was afforded a start today ahead of the more defensively minded Nemanja Matic and made the most of his opportunity.

Speaking after the game to reporters, Fabregas said, "In football today people forget very, very, very quickly who you are, and what you can do. Hopefully now I can get a run of games in the team."

Looking back at the match itself, Fabregas said, "We need to kill games off, we had so many chances but the performance was very good. We felt strong.  People forget that tonight is just the second time in my life that I have played this system, I am getting used to it, I have lots of players in front of me in space and protection behind me.

Looking ahead to the busy Christmas period, Fabregas said, "We want to keep winning, this period in the year is important and we can say a lot... You have seen many times that teams win titles with 1-0 wins. Hopefully we can keep it up. But the result doesn't reflect the game."

Chelsea's win today opens up a 6 point cushion between them and Liverpool and Arsenal, who are tied on 34 points. Manchester City are still very much in the title picture, a point further back.
